The research groups on molecular cardiology in Greifswald focus on translational research on molecular mechanisms leading to tachyarrhythmia. They are experts in the molecular biology of the myocardium, signalling pathway activity, target gene expression, cardiomyocytes function and proteome analyses.

Professor Uwe Lendeckel is based at the Institute of Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the University of Greifswald.
After studying pharmacology and experimental toxicology he graduated in biochemistry.
Since the late 1990s, starting at Magdeburg University and since 2008 continued in Greifswald, he worked on the molecular biology of atrial fibrillation and the role of dysregulated renin-angiotensin system in development and progression of disease. He has in excess of 150 publications, including more than 40 on atrial fibrillation.
